Cheltenham is a classy and chic familiar serif font that was made by Ingalls Kimball & Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue in 1896. It was debuted by Cheltenham Press in New York. Six years later Morris Fuller Benton at American Type Founders (ATF) developed it into a final design and then the series.
Cheltenham is not based on a single historical model and shows influences of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Bold condensed and bold condensed italic variants are used for headlines by The New York Times.
